Artist's Comments

This is my first ever ever ever seascape... or heck, landscape in general. First natural-type thing, at least. :P I drew the majority of the picture from life, but made up a fake sky and reflection. The painting was done completely inside, not from life.

I used an atmospheric technique with a fan brush for the sky, giving gently clouds - impressionistic for most of the rest.

Oil paint on canvas
Once again, no size to document yet... Sorry

Enjoy?

yes, the clouds are very beautiful :) i've always wondered what fan brushes are good for, ty!

Fan brushes are good for making things very soft looking... and they make unbeatable gradients of colour!
Also, another use is to get rid of strokes in a painting.

thanks for the info! they're good for both oils & watercolour right?

I wouldn't know, don't use water colours... If it's wet enough, I'm sure it'd work.

Fan brushes are the awesome. You can use them with all types of mediums. At least I've used them with watercolor, acrylic, tempera and liquid acrylics. Totally like the texture in this piece as well as the use of muted and bold colors together. Quite lovely. :)
